Daughter joins mother in jail for graft

THE daughter of a businesswoman jailed for 20 years in connection with former railway minister Liu Zhijun’s corruption was sentenced to seven years yesterday. Hou Junxia was convicted of illegal business operations at the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court, and 80 million yuan (US$12.9 million) of her personal property confiscated.
Her mother, Ding Yuxin, was jailed for bribery and illegal business operations on Tuesday. She, with others, including her daughter, helped contractors win bids for 57 projects between 2007 and 2010.
Liu was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for bribery and abuse of power in July last year.
