Chinese couple on honeymoon arrested in Japan for beating convenience store worker over shopping manner dispute

A Chinese couple on their honeymoon trip in Japan was arrested for reportedly beating a shop assistant at a convenience store in Sapporo city on Saturday night, local media reported.

The wife surnamed Zhao allegedly opened the package of an ice cream at the convenience store and started eating it before paying, and the assistant gesticulated the woman to get out, Japan Kyodo News reported yesterday, citing Sapporo police.

The couple then beat up the man, injuring his face, according to the report.

The 36-year-old husband surnamed Rong said he works at a bank in Shanghai.

Rong said he beat the man because he felt his wife was insulted, according to the report.
