China issues yellow alert for typhoon Kalmaegi
CHINA'S marine forecast station issued a yellow alert as typhoon Kalmaegi, packing winds of up to 126 km per hour, is expected to enter the South China Sea tomorrow morning.
Kalmaegi is now moving toward the northern Philippines from the country's east coast. It is forecast to land at the northern Philippines island of Luzon around this evening and will continue to approach the southern coast of China tomorrow morning, according to China's state marine forecast station.
The typhoon could create waves up to seven meters high in the eastern part of the South China Sea and the Bashi Channel between this noon and tomorrow noon, according to the forecast.
China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
The station warned ships operating in the waters and urged local governments and personnel to take measures against waves.
