750kg of smuggled human hair found on Yunnan’s border

SMUGGLED human hair has been found in Ruili, a city on southwestern Yunnan Province’s border with Myanmar, under postal parcels, local Customs said today.

Officials seized 750 kilograms of human hair packed in 26 parcels valued at 75,000 yuan (US$12,323) in a recent crackdown, China News Service reported. There was no information about arrests or the date of the seizure.

Human hair that has not been properly processed is classified as waste and cannot legally be imported, according to national rules.

Ruili, at the western of Yunnan, adjoins Myanmar, where females are accustomed to wearing their hair long. To meet the huge demand for products like wigs in China, smugglers import hair from poor countries bordering China.
