3 killed in police gunfight with drug dealers in Guangzhou

POLICE in Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong Province were involved in a firefight with drug dealers on Tuesday with three deaths reported.

Police were hunting drug dealers at around 6 pm on Nantian Street in Haizhu District, according to a statement by Guangzhou Public Security Bureau.

A suspect who opened fire to police during the fight was shot dead, said the report. An injured policeman and a resident were pronounced dead despite rescue.

According to a resident surnamed Chen, gunshots were heard coming from the residential building and the second floor of the building caught on fire soon afterwards.

An investigation is underway.
