1 dead, 7 injured in Beijing residence explosion

A resident died and seven others were injured in an explosion early today at a residential building in Beijing, said local authorities.

The explosion occurred at around 5:30am in an apartment of the ground floor of the building at Zuojiazhuangbeili community in Chaoyang District, said the city's fire-fighting authorities.

All injured people have been sent to hospital. One of them died from serious injuries after emergency treatment.

Residents said they heard the huge sound of explosion and felt the shock. Window glass was broken and some cars nearby were damaged.

Investigations and further rescue are under way.
