Yellow alert for smog issued for China's north

SMOG blanketing China's northern areas triggered a yellow alert on Saturday morning.

Smog will hit Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin over the next three days, said the National Meteorological Center in a statement on its website.

The three areas are forecast to see severe pollution over the next 24 hours.

The meteorological authority forecast that parts of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang and Jilin will brace for snowy weather, while heavy rain is expected to hit Fujian and Guangdong on Saturday.

The center also issued a blue alert for the Typhoon Tokage, which has entered South China Sea. However, the typhoon will not have a major impact on the country, according to the statement.

China has a four-tier warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
