Xi: we must strive for a great victory
CHINA must strive for the great victory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, President Xi Jinping told a high-level workshop in preparation for the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Party’s Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, was speaking at the two-day workshop attended by provincial and ministerial officials.
“Socialism with Chinese characteristics is the theme of all the Party’s theories and practices since the reform and opening-up” nearly 40 years ago, Xi said.
“The CPC must hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics,” he said.
Xi called for firmer confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics to ensure that the Party and country forge ahead in the correct direction.
He encouraged Party members to put forward new thoughts, strategies and measures on the basis of the stages and features of China’s development as well as people’s desire for a better life.
To accomplish building a moderately prosperous society and to realize the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, Xi called for continuous efforts to adopt an overall approach to promote economic, political, cultural, social and ecological progress, as well as advance coordinated development of the “Four Comprehensives.”
The Four Comprehensives refers to a four-pronged strategy aiming to comprehensively accomplish a moderately prosperous society, deepen reform, advance rule of law, and strengthen strict Party governance.
Xi stressed efforts to prevent and defuse major risks, relieve poverty as well as prevent and control pollution.
China will keep deepening supply-side structural reform to push forward sustained and healthy economic and social development, he said. Efforts should be made to prevent and defuse major risks, relieve poverty, and prevent and control pollution.
The success in building a moderately prosperous society should be recognized by the people and stand the test of history, Xi said.
Following its realization by 2020, the Party and people of various ethnic groups across the country shall be motivated to build a modernized socialist country by 2049, the centenary of the People’s Republic of China.
The concept of supply-side structural reform was first mentioned by China’s leadership in late 2015 and is now at the core of China’s economic work, which includes the major tasks of deleveraging, destocking, cutting excess capacity, reducing costs and shoring up weak areas.
