Ten books a year not enough for half of Chinese readers

ABOUT 56 percent Chinese people read more than 10 books last year, thanks to the booming digital reading services and rich contents, Amazon said in a recent report.
The sales of imported English e-books, a spotlight of Amazon's report, surged 68 percent in 2016, and Shanghai is the top city for English e-book consumption on Kindle, said Amazon.
Totally 56 percent of Chinese people read 10 books in 2016, the first time to surpass 50 percent line, compared with 48 percent in the previous year. About 85 percent readers choose both online reading and paper books, and 70 percent are willing to pay for digital readings, said Amazon through a survey covering 14,000 people.
In 2016, China’s digital reading market revenue hit 12 billion yuan (US$1.74 billion), 12.3 percent more than the previous year. The annual growth is expected to hit 20 percent in the future, according to the industry regulator the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.
