Smugglers busted
Customs officers in Shenzhen, in south China’s Guangdong Province, have broken up a gang which smuggled luxury goods and caught nine suspects, the city’s Customs authority said yesterday. A total of 105 cases of luxury brand items including watches, clothes and handbags were seized. The gang has smuggled luxury goods worth about 320 million yuan (US$45.3 million) since 2016, evading more than 60 million yuan in taxes. The network is accused of buying goods from Italy, the United States and other countries, storing the goods and keeping them in storage in Hong Kong Special Administration Region before sending them to the mainland by express parcels using false names and lower prices.
