Over half of China's middle school students have drunk alcohol with 20% having been drunk: survey
OVER half of domestic middle school students have had alcohol drinking experiences and one fifth of them have been drunk, according to a survey released in Shanghai yesterday during the National Responsible Drinking Week, whose theme this year is caring for minors' drinking issue.
Experts and industry insiders said China is lacking laws and regulations to guide minors not to drink alcohol and the government should introduce such laws and promote education.
Conducted by the China Center of Disease Control and Prevention covering over 30,000 students in six cities of Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Harbin, Jinan and Chengdu, the survey found over one fourth of the students said they have tried drinking before ten years old and one fifth tasted alcohol for the first time as early as aged 12 or 13.
