Mother and 3 children die in house fire in Hangzhou

A MOTHER and her three children died in a house hire today in a high-rise building in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

The fire started around 5:00am in the apartment on the 18th floor in a residential complex in Shangcheng District and was put out at 6:48am by the firefighters, district government said.

Four people were found at the site and sent to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Despite rescue efforts, they all died later.

The children were two boys and a girl. The oldest was 11 and the youngest six, reported Hanghzou Daily, citing their grandfather.

The mother spotted the fire first and woke up the nanny, asking her to run and seek for help. The nanny escaped the fire and survived, Hangzhou Daily said.

Smoke and flames billowed out of the building and balcony railings fell off, as shown in videos of the fire that circulated online.
