Mongolia bus crash claims 12 lives
THE death toll in a bus-truck collision in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has climbed to 12 after four people with serious injuries died in the hospital, according to local authorities.
Eight people died on the spot and 32 others were injured after a bus and a truck collided on Saturday evening in Yakeshi City, administered by Hulunbuir City, according to the government of Hulunbuir.
A further four seriously wounded people underwent surgery and are expected to recover, and the remaining injured people are in stable conditions.
The truck was trying to avoid a horse that dashed onto the road when the collision happened, an earlier statement from the government said.
Further investigation into the accident is under way.
China’s top work safety watchdog said yesterday that a task force had been dispatched to investigate the collision and punish those responsible.
The State Administration of Work Safety urged local authorities to severely penalize those responsible for the accident and to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
