Mainland spokesman says cross-Strait communication mechanisms in suspension

COMMUNICATION mechanisms between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan is currently in suspension over the failure to recognize the 1992 Consensus by Taiwan's current administration, a mainland spokesman said Saturday.

An Fengshan, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks when asked to comment on Taiwan's protests against Cambodia's recent escort of Taiwanese telecom fraud suspects to the Chinese mainland.

The Taiwan side has failed to recognize the 1992 Consensus which endorses the one-China principle after May 20, and cross-Strait contact and communication mechanisms have thus been suspended, An said.

He said lawful crack down on telecom frauds and protection of fraud victims are "perfectly justified, and are supported by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait."
