China travel agencies offer refunds for trips to Nice, warning Chinese tourists to avoid crowded areas

TRAVEL agencies in China have launched emergencies plans and started offering full refunds to tourists who want to cancel their booked accommodation or trips to Nice or southern France.

July is the traditional travel peak of Nice, a popular destination featuring spectacular view of sea, travel agencies said.

Tourists in Nice have been reminded to avoid going out by travel agencies.

Online travel operator Ctrip has offered free cancelation for accommodation orders in Nice between today and July 21, and will adjust itineraries for tour groups who will visit the port city depending on the real situation and tourists' will for safety concerns.

The travel agency has one tour group in Nice, and was not affected, it said.

It warned tourists to avoid areas with big crowds and follow the arrangement of tour guides.

Tourists who have booked tour products to Nice between today and July 22 can ask for a free change of schedule, and a full refund will be offered if they want to cancel the trip, said Tongcheng, another online travel operator.

It has reminded its tourists who will visit France over safety issues.

Elong and Qunar have also promised to offer full refund for air ticket or accommodation cancelation for tourists scheduled to visit Nice within seven days.

There is no report on casualties of Shanghainese tourists.

France was once the most popular European destination among Chinese tourists for its beautiful cultural heritage, wine and delicacies, but a terror attack in Paris in November last year that killed more than 150 people had severely affected Chinese tourists' enthusiasm to France, according to Mafengwo, a travel website for travel notes and reviews.

The European Cup has boosted tourism to France again, but the incident in Nice would deliver another heavy blow to the French tourism industry which was just slowly recovering, it said.

The website has sent a warning to more than 2,800 users of its App who are traveling in France, and has started offering full refund to tourists who want to cancel already booked air tickets plus hotel products in southern France between today and July 21.
