5 missing in SW China heavy rain
Torrential rain has disrupted lives of 29,000 people since Thursday, leaving five missing in southwest China's Guizhou Province, authorities said Sunday.
Rainstorms hit eight counties or cities in the province, forcing nearly 4,000 residents to temporarily relocate as of Saturday, said a written statement issued by the civil affairs department of the province.
The rain damaged more than 520 hectares of crops and toppled over 360 houses. Direct economic loss reached over 31 million yuan (US$4.73 million), said the statement.
The department allocated 4 million yuan for disaster relief in counties including Rongjiang and Liping, where five people were missing. Tents, folding beds and quilts were also sent to the areas.
