Education Overview

The district made new improvements in education. A series of measures, including introduction of high quality education resources, commissioned management, inter-school cooperation and flexible flowing of key teachers, promoted the balanced development of compulsory education.

The district opened 6 new kindergartens, 1 primary school in 2008. The basic standards of education average outlay of primary school and middle school were respectively 1,400 yuan and 1,650 yuan. The distributions of senior high school were optimized. The organization of Minhang Vocational Education Group was started. Led by District Community College, the three-level network of education for life was formed. The acceptance ratio of migrants’ children in public school reached 57.8%.

Shanghai Qibao Middle School

Established in 1947, the school became a key middle school in Shanghai. Currently, it is one of Shanghai’s 11 high-standard and modern boarding senior high schools. In September 2005, a Qibao Middle School Education Group was established, owning five core schools. The school now occupies 146.7 mu of land and has a gross floor space of 65,000 square meters. With the first-rate teaching facilities in China, the school has 54 classes and 2,630 students. In recent years, the school has been rated as one of “Shanghai’s experimental and demonstration senior high schools”, the “municipal base for training top-rate school principals” and the “advanced collective in the national educational system”.

Shanghai Minhang Middle School

One of Shanghai’s experimental and demonstration senior high schools, the school is close to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Huadong Normal University and the Zizhu High-Tech Park. It has 42 classes and 1,864 students.

In 2006, it became one of the first institute for international education cooperation at the senior high level and the base school for international education of the National Overseas Studies Foundation. In cooperation with the Beijing Forum of Asian Education, the school introduced the models of international education and bilingual teaching, thus opening a direct route for more students to pursue studies in the United States.
