Efficient Transport
Minhang District boasts an efficient and convenient traffic system.
There were 20 bus lines running within the district and another 153 lines which have stops in the district. These lines carried an annual passenger flow of 136,640,000 people in 2006.

Linked with Metro Line 2, 4, and Line 3, Metro Line 1 leads from Xinzhuang Town (where the district’s government is located) directly to the city center and Shanghai Railway Station. It takes less than 35 minutes from Xinzhuang Town to People’s Square.

Starting from the north at Xinzhuang Town, the more than 17-kilometer-long Light Rail Line 5 goes south along Humin Road and ends at Tianxing Road in the Minhang Developing Area. It takes 30 minutes to go through all 11 stops on the line and passengers can transfer to Metro Line 1 at Xinzhuang. It ran 116,900 times in 2006 and served a daily passenger flow of 58,000 persons.

The Shanghai-Hangzhou railway and the Nanxin railways go through the center of the district, while the Shanghai-Hangzhou and Shanghai-Nanjing superhighways and the National Highway 318 and 320 lead to other provinces via the district.
Bordering the district, Hongqiao International Airport is just 12 kilometers away from Xinzhuang Town. It takes only 40 minutes to the Pudong International Airport by car.
Road Construction
The project of Jianchuan Road (Huaning Road Humin Road) was completed and opened to traffic in 2007. The projects still under construction included Fengqing Road, the No. 1 Road of the Aerospace Park, Xichou Road, the Dianpu River Bridge of Hongxin Road, Hechuan Road, Zhahang Road and the south section of Zhongchun Road. In particular, the first and second phases of Wanfang Road have entered the preparatory stage.
Transport Hub
The Hongqiao Transport Hub is a mega project approved by the State Council. It will cater to the needs of the long-haul aviation, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train service, the inter-city train service in the Yangtze River Delta, the high-speed bus service, the city rail transport and the ground bus service. A major infrastructure project for Shanghai during the 11th five-year plan period, the project will be able to handle 480,000 passengers a day after completion.
Capital Construction Investment
The districts investment in urban capital construction in 2007 totaled 1,777 million yuan, up 15.9 percent over the previous year, accounted for 6.3 percent of the districts investment in fixed assets. Specifically, the district invested 1,377 million yuan in municipal and road construction, and 400 million yuan in sewage treatment.
