In 2010, the district constructed new commodity houses of 2,580,000 square meters. Five residential communities, with a total construction area of 699,900 square meters, were rated as "Shanghai's energy-saving and floor-saving four-high housing estates".
The district completed 26 supporting projects for public buildings, with a construction area of 147,400 square meters. Besides, the district carried out renovation projects in 65 old residential communities, covering 1,043 buildings and a total construction area of 3,250,000 square meters.
Specifically, 59 renovation projects changed the flat roofs to sloping ones, covering a total construction area of 3,030,000 square meters in 984 buildings; six ones were comprehensive renovations, covering a total construction area of 220,000 square meters in 59 buildings.

In the district, there are 41 nursing homes and 714 new nursing beds have been added in 2010. By the end of the year, the total number of beds had reached 7,491, an increase of 1.5 % over the previous year. 2,350 more citizens chose to receive home-based care, bringing the total to 11,550.
In the year, activities have been carried out to help 5,450 senior citizens to have meals and 5 new meal service stations were added. By the end of 2010, there had been a sum of 46 various meal service stations in the district. Four integrated activity centers for senior citizens were built, together with 24 standardized seniors' activity rooms. The number of standard activity rooms for the elderly in the whole district had reached 477, accounting for 92.3% of the residents' (villagers') committees in the district.
