Scientific Contribution

In 2007, the district had over 3,000 private technological enterprises. In particular, the output value of 248 high-tech enterprises exceeded 100 billion yuan. The district had 784 R&D and industrialization projects being applied to the central and municipal governments for approval and won 149-million-yuan research fund from these governments.

The district had 49 new municipal high-tech conversion projects and 40 national and municipal innovation projects, winning 10.7 million yuan in innovation fund from the Ministry of Science and Technology and from the municipal government. It had 24 enterprises ranked among Shanghai top 100 private technological enterprises, the highest among Shanghai districts and counties for six consecutive years.

The district confirmed 196 technological contracts, worth 2.11 billion yuan. The district had 10,500 patent applications, The highest among Shanghai districts and counties for four consecutive years. Prizes for Innovations and Advances in Science and Technology

In 2007, the district won one national prize for natural science, accounting for 20 percent of Shanghais total; one national prize for technological invention, accounting for 25 percent; and two national prizes for advances in science and technology, accounting for 6.06 percent. These national prizes were worth 400,000 yuan.

Also in the year, the district won 55 municipal prizes for advances in science and technology, accounting for 17.8 percent of Shanghais total. Specifically, nine municipal prizes or 20 percent of the total were first-class, 18 or 16.07 percent were second-class, and 28 or 18.42 percent were third-class.

These municipal prizes were worth 1.78 million yuan. The district intensified efforts to push forward technological innovation and was rated as a national model district for advances in science and technology for the third year running.

Little Technological Giants

The district introduced 18 measures to help create little technological giants. So far, more than 100 viable technological enterprises were included into the program.

In the year, five enterprises were confirmed as the 2007 little technological giants, accounting for one-quarter of Shanghais total. In addition, the district had 11 enterprises or one-ninth of the total being slated for municipal little giants and 21 enterprises being slated for district little giants.

Shanghai Shenkai Petrochemical Equipment Co., Ltd.

The company is a high-tech enterprise, specializing in the research, development and production of oil exploration instruments, oil drilling control equipment, oil excavation equipment and oil product analysis instruments.

The company has developed many world-advanced products with proprietary intellectual property, and has been granted 58 patents and 14 software copyrights. About 90 percent were invention patents and utility model patents.

The company was rated as Shanghais little technological giant in 2006, its Shenkai trademark was recognized in 2005 as Shanghais famous trademark, and the company was rated in 2006 as one of the top 50 enterprises in Chinas petrochemical equipment industry.

Shanghai Sunny New Technology Development Co., Ltd.

Established in 1996, the company is a municipal high-tech enterprise specializing in the research, development, production and marketing of polymer new materials. After 11 years of development, the company now has six subsidiaries and its total assets exceed 200 million yuan. It has been confirmed as Shanghais little technological giant.

In 2007, the companys sales revenue totaled over 700 million yuan and its core business revenue exceeded 550 million yuan. The company now ranks third among its peers in China in terms of economic efficiency, production scale, core competitiveness, R&D capacity and employee qualification.
