Yang Xiong meets McDonald’s president
杨雄会见美国麦当劳公司全球总裁唐•汤普森一行

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Don Thompson, president and CEO of McDonald’s, and his delegation on November 19. He said McDonald’s is one of the first foreign fast food brands to enter Shanghai and its business grew fast in recent years.

The mayor said the Chinese are very concerned about food safety after a number of incidents happened in recent years. The faster a food company develops business in China, the more it should do to guarantee food safety.

He said he hoped McDonald’s can use its expertise in global operation management to enhance quality control in China and use the Internet as an effective media to monitor food safety in its subsidiaries, suppliers and franchise restaurants.

Thompson said McDonald’s made the Chinese market a top priority for business development, and food safety is essential for McDonald’s. The company will take every possible measure to strengthen food quality control.

He told Yang that McDonald’s will open more restaurants in Shanghai to create more jobs and contribute more to the local society.

McDonald’s ranks 433 among the Fortune 500 companies and has more than 35,000 franchised restaurants in 119 countries and regions.
