Shanghai leader meets IMF managing director
有序推进金融开放 韩正会见国际货币基金组织总裁拉加德

IN his meeting with Christine Lagarde, managing director of International Monetary Fund last Friday, Shanghai Party Secretary Han Zheng said development in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone marks a new round of opening-up in China.  Shanghai is leading the country in sweeping reforms.

Being an economic center of China, Shanghai will push for financial reform and innovation, promote financial market opening, and speed up its transformation into an international financial center, Han told the IMF chief.

People are much concerned about the convertibility of the renminbi these days and Shanghai is taking firm and fast steps to build risk management capabilities to realize the convertibility of the Chinese currency, Han said.

He wished Lagarde’s visit could help her gain more understanding of China and Shanghai.

Lagarde said Shanghai was the first stop of her visit in China. She was impressed by the city’s achievements in innovation and sustainable development. IMF is closely following the development of the city’s financial sector.

She said IMF will continue to pay close attention to China’s reform and opening, and she wished Shanghai even more achievements in the future.
