Mayor talks with AIA Group president
欢迎参与自贸区建设 杨雄会晤友邦保险首席执行官

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Mark Edward Tucker, chief executive and president of AIA Group Ltd, in Shanghai last Thursday.

Yang said AIA has historical ties with Shanghai not only because the company was founded in Shanghai, but also because it capitalized on the city’s reform and opening, as well as the construction of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone.

He said the free trade zone adopted a series of innovative policies and rules during its first-year operation and promoted the cross-border settlement in yuan and liberalization of yuan interest rates. These measures boosted Shanghai’s effort to become an international financial center.

The mayor asked AIA to contribute its expertise to the construction of the Shanghai FTZ, broaden the scope of its insurance products, introduce new service models and benefit from the growth of the city’s insurance market.

Tucker spoke highly of the reforms and innovations carried out in the Shanghai FTZ and acknowledged the great opportunities and growth potentials in China’s insurance industry.

He said he has full confidence in Shanghai’s reform and development and promised that AIA will actively participate in the development of the Shanghai FTZ and help Shanghai to transform into an international financial center.

AIA Group is the world’s fourth largest insurance company. It ranks 164th in the Forbes Top 500 companies in 2014.
