Mayor receives a delegation of African ambassadors
非洲各国驻华大使来沪考察 杨雄出席欢迎宴会并介绍情况
SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong held a reception for a delegation of African diplomatic mission in China yesterday. The mission is made up of 40 African embassies in Beijing.
Yang briefed the African guests on Shanghai’s economic and social development and reform trials in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
He said Shanghai is developing an innovation-driven economy through industrial restructuring and upgrade. The free trade zone is a testing ground of administrative reform and legislative innovation designed to facilitate trade and investment.
The mayor said the negative list adopted by the free trade zone has spared overseas investors of lengthy approval procedures and is a boost to the service industry, while simplified customs procedures give imputes to cross-board trade.
Yang noted that the FTZ adopted 51 financial reform measures, including opening free trade accounts for companies in the zone and promoting cross-border yuan settlement. The FTZ also strengthened risk control by building a public credit information system and requiring companies to publish their annual business reports.
He spoke highly of the long-term friendship between China and African countries and stressed Shanghai’s close cooperation with many African countries, adding that Shanghai officials are keen to work with the ambassadors to boost Sino-African partnership.
Paul Chong Leung, leader of the delegation, said they were impressed by Shanghai’s development in recent years. The city is a frontrunner in many fields.
He said Africa is known as the continent of the future. He welcomed Shanghai people to travel in Africa, to understand Africa and to increase people-to-people exchanges.
The African ambassadors will visit Pudong-based COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China), Shanghai Free Trade Zone, and Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and take a sightseeing cruise on the Huangpu River.
