Han Zheng talks with Roche AG chairman

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng had a meeting with Christoph Franz, chairman of F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG and his group on Tuesday.
Han said Shanghai is in a pivotal period in its effort to achieve innovation-driven growth and economic transformation. The city needs to balance priorities for urban functions and industries.
He said the Chinese people demand better medical care and health products as their living standard goes up. Shanghai’s pharmaceutical industry should meet their needs with more innovative products.
Han noted that Roche has operated in Shanghai for more than 20 years and witnessed Pudong’s development and opening. He welcomed more companies to set up their research and development centers in the city and promised even better environment for them to develop business.
Franz thanked Shanghai for supporting Roche over the years. He said he is proud for Roche’s achievements in Shanghai and is encouraged by the city’s policy of giving priority to the development of pharmaceutical industry.
He said Roche wants to participate even more in Shanghai’s innovation and development and strengthen opportunity with the city through the establishment of a brand-new Roche innovation center in Zhangjiang High-tech Park.
Pudong Party Secretary Shen Xiaoming was present at the meeting.
