Han Zheng talks with King Philippe of Belgium
在“一带一路”战略下深化合作 韩正会见比利时国王和王后

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met with King Philippe of Belgium and Queen Mathilde yesterday and said he visited Belgium just two weeks ago with a Shanghai delegation and talked with Belgian politicians and businesspeople in Antwerp and Brussels. He noticed that majority of Belgians want closer ties with China.

Han said Shanghai has been a sister city of Antwerp for over 30 years. The two port cities have huge potentials for cooperation under the “One Belt, One Road” initiatives.

He said Shanghai underwent tremendous changes after more than 30 years of reform and opening. The local standard of living has improved significantly. Shanghai is continuing the reform and opening to let people live even better life.

The city leader said the king and the queen will have a better understanding of China and Shanghai through their visit, which will help boost friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and between Shanghai and Belgian cities.

King Philippe said he was glad to visit Shanghai and he found this city has changed a lot since his first visit in 1986. He was impressed by Shanghai’s advanced urban planning for future development.

The king said he hoped their visit would help strengthen cooperation between Belgian cities and Shanghai in fields of economy, trade, education, science and technology and culture. The monarch said he is looking forward to seeing Antwerp and Shanghai benefit from China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiatives.

Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Qu Xing and the CPC Shanghai Committee secretary general Yin Hong were present at the meeting.
