Han Zheng meets Starbucks chairman
韩正会见星巴克董事会主席:致力于中外企业发展

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met Howard Schultz, chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks on Wednesday.

Han said that Shanghai is an open city, which is devoted to creating a more convenient and legal business environment for domestic and foreign companies. As China’s reform and opening go further, Shanghai will be more open to the world.

Currently, coffee culture has been accepted by more people as tea culture and coffee has been an essential part of life as tea, the secretary continued.

He said Starbucks has made sound achievements since it entered the Chinese market 17 years ago and Shanghai will continue to create a better development environment for Chinese and foreign companies.

Schultz said that Starbucks highly focuses on the Chinese market and is fully confident in the Chinese economy.

The guest tells Han that Shanghai is the city with the most Starbucks outlets in the world.

Starbucks is the world’s largest café franchise company, with 25,000 outlets in 75 countries in the world and about 300,000 employees, including 30,000 in China. It entered the Chinese market in 1999 and set up its regional headquarters in Shanghai in 2005.

China is Starbucks’ second largest market after the United States and there are more than 2,400 Starbucks shops in more than 100 Chinese cities.
