Han Zheng meets South Korean politicians
韩正会见韩国客人

Shanghai Party Secretary Han Zheng met Kim Moo-sung, chairman of the Saenuri Party (formerly the Grand National Party) of South Korea, last Wednesday.

Han welcomed Kim and his delegation on behalf of the CPC Shanghai Committee and the Municipal Government. He said the two countries are good neighbors with close economic ties.

He said Shanghai has extensive cooperation with Korean cities in business, science and technology, culture and tourism. Shanghai and Pusan have been sister cities for more than 20 years.

Despite a weakening world economy, Shanghai still maintained a double-digit growth in trade with South Korea in the first half of this year, Han added.

He said he believed Kim’s visit would help promote the Sino-Korean relationship and the ties between Shanghai and South Korean cities.

Kim said he can always feel Shanghai’s changes each time he visited the economic center of the world’s second largest economy.

He said South Korea pays high attention to the construction of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone and he hoped both sides can broaden their exchanges and cooperation.

Kim added that the founders of the Republic of Korea set up their government in exile in Shanghai after their country was occupied by the Japanese. Shanghai has a special place in the hearts of Korean people.
