Han Zheng holds reception for Mexican president
韩正会见墨西哥总统培尼亚希望双方企业有更紧密合作
SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met visiting Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on November 12 and extended welcome on behalf of the Shanghai government and the people.
Han said China and Mexico enjoy traditional and friendly relationship. The two countries last year upgraded their relationship to comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter for bilateral cooperation.
He said the president’s state visit to China shortly after the APEC Summit in Beijing will strengthen the ties between the two countries. Shanghai has close relationship with several Mexican cities and states. It established sisterly relationship with the State of Jalisco 16 years ago.
As the Chinese economy grew rapidly in recent years, more and more Chinese companies are investing overseas. The Shanghai government encourages local enterprises to expand business abroad, said the Party secretary who was the mayor of Shanghai from 2003 to 2012.
Peña Nieto spoke highly of the just-closed APEC Summit in Beijing and said his state visit would promote the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.
The Mexican president said he was glad to visit the beautiful city of Shanghai and to attend a Sino-Mexican business seminar and an exhibition on Mexican culture here. He welcomed Chinese companies to invest in Mexico and hoped companies on both sides can sign more deals to sell products in each other’s market.
He wished Jalisco and Shanghai can expand their economic and cultural exchanges and contribute more to the two countries’ friendship.
Chinese Minister of Transportation Yang Chuantang and Chinese Ambassador to Mexico Qiu Xiaoqi were present at the meeting.
