You wear it well with this fashion
HIGH-TECH fashion was the order of the day at Donghua University yesterday.
Chinese and international designers — and scholars — gathered at the university to share their fantastic creations involving wearable technology.
At a conference to launch the 16th Greater Donghua Fashion Week, Fan Jintu, professor and chairman of the Department of Fiber Science and Apparel Design of Cornell University, introduced his latest research and results in this field.
These included products with radio frequency identification devices that can test their wearers’ body temperature, heartbeat and respiration.
Fan’s team is also trying to develop thermal regulatory clothing with a wearable air conditioner that can cool down or warm up the body. It does so via embedded tiny pipelines in the clothing.
Matthew Drinkwater, head of Innovation Agency of the London College of Fashion, told the audience his designs combined fashion and technology, such as trousers with a pocket that could recharge a mobile phone, a belt made of soft batteries and 3D printed artificial limbs.
The fashion week will end on Friday, but the exhibitions will continue to be displayed until the end of May.
