Woman gets 4-month detention for stabbing
IN a classic case where a scorned woman acted in fury, a married woman was sentenced to four months in detention for stabbing her husband’s lover, said the Putuo District Procuratorate.
In January this year, the woman, surnamed Wu, sensed something was amiss about her husband’s behavior and rightfully dug out that he was having an affair with a former classmate, a woman named Gu.
An upset and angry Wu had a massive row with her husband and insisted on meeting the other woman.
During the meeting, Wu’s husband, who was not identified, and Gu promised not to contact each other again in the future.
But in March, Wu, who believed the affair had ended for good, found out that her husband was still in touch with Gu.
While checking her husband’s mobile phone, Wu found out that he had given Gu 520 yuan, which sounds like “I love you” in Chinese, as “red envelope” through the popular online payment service Alipay in February while staying in touch with her regularly.
All hell broke lose again even as Wu’s husband tried to calm her by saying Gu had gone back to her hometown and they had not been in touch with each other.
That turned out to be another lie!
Wu went to check out Gu at the neighborhood where she lived — and found her walking out of the house.
Hurt and angry, Wu went chasing her husband again and demanded another meeting with Gu.
But before the meeting, she went to a supermarket and bought a knife.
Again Gu promised not to meet her husband, while Wu asked her husband to choose between one of the two women.
The husband insisted he would leave Shanghai for good but that was not good enough for Wu.
As the row raged publicly, Wu’s husband said if that did not satisfy her he was willing to divorce her and walked away. That enraged Wu even more and she attacked Gu with the knife. She slashed her hands and face and Wu’s husband came running back on hearing her cries.
As the man held on to Gu nervously, Wu threatened to end her life till her husband managed to get hold of the knife.
Wu told police she had acted in rage as she felt Gu had hurt family.
