US child sex suspect handed over at Pudong
AN American national suspected of sexually abusing several children in the United States was handed over by Chinese police to their US colleagues at Pudong International Airport yesterday.
The suspect, whose name wasn’t revealed, has been taken back to the US by police officers from the country’s Department of Justice.
The suspect allegedly sexually abused several children aged from 6 to 12 in the US from July 2009 and August 2012, and the US police started investigation after receiving reports from the victims in June last year, according to China’s Ministry of Public Security.
He was put on Interpol’s “red notice” wanted list in June this year after the American police found that he fled the US while investigation was still under way.
The suspect was said to have fled to Shanghai in May.
After receiving requests from the US for help with investigation, Chinese police quickly managed to locate and catch the suspect.
Chinese police said the man hadn’t committed the same crimes during his time in China.
