Trio sent to prison for pimping young girl

THREE people who forced an underage girl into prostitution were yesterday sentenced to prison terms of between 6 1/2 and 11 years, the Baoshan District People’s Court said.

The youngster, who the court described only as being under 14, was lured to Shanghai from her hometown in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province by a prostitute named Yang Daiyan who operated out of a noodle shop on Songbin Road in Baoshan.

In December 2012, the owner of the shop, Ding Guangbin, urged Yang to find more girls to work for him as prostitutes.

After discussing the matter with her boyfriend, Tan Qiansheng, Yang and Tan returned to Yang’s hometown in Shaanxi and found the girl, who was a vagrant. Yang tricked her into returning to Shanghai with the couple by saying she could get a job at a supermarket paying 3,000 yuan (US$480) a month.

But on their arrival in the city, Yang told the girl the truth about what they wanted her to do. When the youngster refused, the couple took her ID card and locked her in a house in Jiading District.

They also beat her with a belt, forced her to watch pornographic videos and even had sex in front of her, the court heard.

Under mounting pressure, the girl eventually conceded and began working as a prostitute.

Between December 2012 and April of last year, Ding arranged for her to provide sex services to men in a warehouse at the back of his noodle shop and at nearby hostels. The court heard that he made between 50 and 100 yuan from each client.

In April 2013, the girl escaped and told police what had happened to her. Yang, Tan and Ding were apprehended the following July.
