Trio held for book sale scam
THREE suspects have been detained for illegal reproduction of books since early last year that they then sold via the Internet to customers across China.
Shanghai police said yesterday that in a recent raid over 100,000 copies of printed books were found at the gang’s premises in Suqian city, Jiangsu Province.
Police said the face value of the books was over 2 million yuan (US$300,000).
Investigation started earlier this year after a man, who works for a bookstore in Shanghai, reported to police that over 10,000 copies of children’s books he bought from a shop on taobao.com weren’t the genuine article.
