Toddler survives 5-story plunge

A TODDLER got lucky this week after surviving a fall from a fifth-story window without a scratch.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon when the 3-year-old boy was found lying on a patch of grass beneath his family’s apartment in Gaoqian Town in the Pudong New Area, Shanghai Television reported yesterday.

Neighbors heard the child crying and went to his aid, the report said.

He was taken to hospital for a checkup but found to be uninjured. A witness said there was quite a lot of shrubbery and several cables between the fifth floor and the ground, which probably helped to break the child’s fall.

According to the news report, the toddler was being cared for by his grandmother while his parents, who hail from Yangzhou, east China’s Jiangsu Province, were at work.

However, she is believed to have left him alone in the apartment while she went to the shops.
