‘Thigh fetish’ man detained

A 40-year-old local man accused of having a thigh fetish has been detained.

The man, surnamed Xu, took “a large amount” of pictures and videos of women’s bare thighs as well as more intimate photographs in different locations of the city, police said yesterday.

A police officer patrolling in the waiting area of Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station last Sunday noticed Xu, who had a video camera in his hand, appeared nervous, police said.

Xu claimed he didn’t have his identity card with him and refused to show the officer his video footage.

Xu was later found to be carrying about “140 gigabytes” of pictures and videos of women’s thighs in his video camera and mobile phone.

Police said the pictures and videos, dating from May 24, were taken at railway and Metro stations and at exhibitions.

Xu, who is married and works in interior decoration, is alleged to have owned up to becoming obsessed about women’s thighs after seeing pictures of them in an Internet site for amateur photographers.

He was fined 200 yuan (US$30) and given seven days of detention for infringing other people’s privacy and had his video camera and mobile phone confiscated for storing obscene contents in them, police said.
