Tangerine killer sentenced
A 62-year-old man who stabbed a neighbor to death in a dispute over tangerines in November 2015 has been sentenced to life in prison for intentional injury, according to Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court.
The killer, surnamed Zhang, was picking tangerines in a local public green space when the intoxicated victim, surnamed Huang, approached him, the court revealed.
Huang claimed he owned the trees, and accused Zhang of stealing his tangerines. The two quarreled, and Zhang’s friends arrived and tried to resolve the dispute amicably, the court said.
Zhang went home, but later became angry when he heard that Huang was picking tangerines from the trees. He found Huang near the tangerine trees, a fight broke out and he stabbed him, the court said. Huang died at the scene.
