Taiwan man, professing to be plainclothes officer, attacks local woman at hospital parking lot

A man was held by police yesterday in connection with an assault in a parking lot of a hospital in Songjiang District on Monday.

The attacked woman called the police on Monday afternoon, saying someone struck her on the head and grabbed her mobile phone in the parking lot of the Songjiang South branch of Shanghai General Hospital on Monday afternoon.

She said the attacker claimed that he was a plainclothes policeman.

The woman was slightly injured on the head, police said.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man surnamed Ke from Taiwan, was caught in Tinglin Town of Jinshan District yesterday afternoon.

Ke said he approached the woman when she was sitting in her car, claiming to be a police officer, and struck her with an electric stick and grabbed her phone when she became suspicious, according to police.

Ke said he thought of robbing the woman because he is in debt, police said.
