TCM cheats given year in prison

TWO men who used bogus traditional Chinese medicine to swindle 10 people out of 90,000 yuan (US$14,400) have been sentenced to a year in prison, the Zhabei District People’s Court ruled yesterday.
In several cases, the pair told people they were suffering from bone spurs, which they then extracted using the TCM procedure of “cupping.”
To help convince patients, the men put fish bones in the cups before applying them, then show the “results” of their treatment to the grateful recipients.
The two men began dispensing their bogus medical treatments last October and charged between 1,000 yuan and 2,000 yuan per session.
One elderly woman was conned out of 19,000 yuan.
