Some find shelter at Metro stations as a way to beat the heat
SOME local residents are moving into Metro stations to cool themselves and beat the scorching heat.
At West Jinshajiang Road Station on Line 13, people could be seen sitting or lying on the ground paved with mats and cardboards, taking a nap or playing cards, with children playing around, thepaper.cn reported.
According to the station chief, most of them are migrant workers from nearby Xingfu Village.
A middle-aged man said they came to the Metro station because they didn’t have air conditioners at home.
Metro staff tried to talk them away but it didn’t work.
“We don’t have any choice,” the middle-aged man said. “It’s way too hot these days. If they (the Metro staff) come, we will just leave.”
By noon, there were about 100 people.
The Metro station chief said sitting or lying on the ground of the station was against the laws. He said they would keep an eye on them for safety reasons, and would coordinate with the police to find a way to the problem.
