Skateboarder dies in taxi smash

POLICE have launched a crackdown on people using electric skateboards following a fatal accident in the Pudong New Area earlier this week, Shanghai Morning Post reported yesterday.

Sun Chun, 51, died after being hit by a taxi while riding his board across Lujiazui Ring Road about 10:30pm on Tuesday, the report said.

The taxi driver was observing the rules of the road when he hit Sun, who was on his way to meet a client who had employed him to drive his car home, it said.

People like Sun are employed to drive cars owned by people who have drunk too much to do so themselves. Many of the drivers-for-hire use motorized transporters, like electric skateboards, to move quickly around the city.
