Siren sparks alarm in Songjiang
CIVIL defense authorities in Songjiang District have apologized for sounding an air-defense siren by mistake yesterday morning.
The alarm went off at 9:45am in the old town area and lasted for about a minute, xinmin.cn reported.
The unexpected warning sparked confusion and alarm among local residents, several of whom posted comments on Weibo, the report said.
The civil defense office said the horn was sounded by accident by an operator who was testing the control system. It was unintentional and there was no air-defense drill, it said, adding it was “very sorry” for the inconvenience.
In the event of a genuine air-defense drill, local residents will be notified in advance, the report said.
