Self-service luggage trial

PUDONG International Airport has installed 12 self-service luggage check-in machines in a trial operation aimed at cutting the waiting time for passengers, the Shanghai Airport Authority said yesterday.

Passengers can check their luggage at the machines without the help of airline staff, so they don’t have to queue, said authority official Zhu Xiaoyi.

The machines are situated near the check-in counters of the local carriers Spring and Juneyao, and will be expanded to other airlines and Hongqiao International Airport in future, the authority said.

Passengers can put their luggage into the machine after scanning their boarding pass, which can be printed beforehand, or identity card.

A label displaying the passenger’s flight information will be printed out for them to stick on their luggage.
