Pudong restoring Gaoqiao Town

THE Pudong New Area land and planning authority is seeking public opinion on a draft proposal on the preservation of historical and cultural attractions in Gaoqiao Town.

The town, at the northern end of the Pudong New Area between the Huangpu and Yangtze rivers and next to the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, is one of the most famous old towns in Shanghai.

Under the proposal, the Old Baoshan City, Qingpu Old Town, Gaoqiao Old Town and Tiandengkou areas are marked as key preservation areas in the Gaoqiao area.

While the old towns have up to 600 years of history, the Tiandengkou area, where the Gaoqiao River meets the Huangpu, is a former ferry dock.

The draft also envisions restoring ancient bridges over the rivers and ancient architecture in Gaoqiao Town.

The authority encourages people to lodge submissions on the draft , which is available at www.planning.pudong.gov.cn, before November 3.
