THE Pudong International Airport yesterday welcomed its 50 millionth passenger since starting operations in 1999. Local passenger Xu Haimei, who was traveling on an American Airlines Flight AA128 to Dallas in the United States, was greeted by airport officials and presented with a citation and a model of Pudong Terminal 2. The airport is aiming to become the top 10 airports in the world by 2020. Airport officials said the number of passengers had increased by 10 percent this year compared to last year, making it the world’s top 20 in terms of passenger turnover. The airport expects to receive 80 million passengers by 2020.
