Property fraudster jailed

A woman who accepted a 240,000-yuan (US$36,000) down payment on a home that had already been sold in a court-ordered auction in 2014 to pay her debts was jailed for 4-1/2 years and fined 5,000 yuan for fraud, Baoshan District People’s Court said yesterday. The woman, surnamed Zhao, borrowed from a friend, surnamed Zhang, after offering to sell her apartment to her for well below its market value in March 2015. She later offered to treat the debt as a down payment after the property had been sold.
