Police probe ‘doctor’ over girl’s death
POLICE are investigating a man practising medicine without a license in suburban Shanghai over the death of a three-year-old girl he treated for a cold.
The girl’s father took her to the man, 49-year-old Zhang Lianhua, last Thursday because she was running a fever. She was given an intravenous drip and an injection, but her health deteriorated.
From their village in Zhoupu Town in the Pudong New Area, the father rushed her to the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center that afternoon for treatment, but she died on Saturday.
Zhang fled but was later arrested. He and the girl’s family are from Henan Province and the family had reportedly sought medical treatment from Zhang before.
Police and health inspectors have tried to take action against Zhang previously, but he constantly moved his residence and kept his practices secret.
