Passport ‘imposter’ given fine
A WOMAN who tried to travel to South Korea using a friend’s passport has been fined for people smuggling, the Pujiang Entry-Exit Frontier Inspection Station said yesterday.
The incident happened on Friday when the woman, surnamed Xue, attempted to impersonate a friend who had booked and paid for a cruise to the country but was unable to go.
Xue admitted to the deception when a customs official asked her to explain why she did not resemble the image in the passport.
She told officials that she had wanted to join the cruise tour but had failed to register in time.
When her friend told her she was unable to go, the pair agreed to attempt the deception.
The station did not specify the size of the fine.
