Passenger jet stroke drama

A CHINA Eastern Airlines flight to Singapore had to turn back to Shanghai yesterday morning after a passenger suffered a stroke.

The 58-year-old man from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, fell unconscious about 40 minutes after the flight took off, Shanghai Television reported.

“His family members kept patting his face and calling on him to wake him up and he was given oxygen but it didn’t work,” one passenger said.

The captain decided to return to Shanghai Pudong International Airport where an ambulance was waiting.

The flight arrived back at Shanghai at 12:15pm and the man was rushed to the Pudong New Area People’s Hospital.

Medical treatment was ongoing, it was later reported.

“Passengers were all very cooperative without any complaints,” said Shen Liangtao, deputy general manager of Pudong Passenger Service Center.
