Heat wave leaves one local dead, another in critical condition: hospital

ONE of the two patients sent to a hospital in Fengxian District after fainted in heat last week had died from severe heat stroke, the hospital announced today.

The dead patient is a 46-year-old woman who collapsed and fainted on the roadside at 2pm on Thursday and was found by pedestrians about three hours later. When she was sent to the hospital, she was in a deep coma with very high body temperature.She was  diagnosed with severe heat stroke, multiple organ failure, heart failure, respiratory failure, pulmonary edema, brain edema as well as shock at that time.

She died in the hospital two days later.

The other is a 66-year-old woman who passed out at home. She is now still unconscious and in critical condition, the  hospital said.

Today is the seventh day with a high of above 35 degrees Celsius as heat waves continue  and today's high is expected to hit 38  degrees. 

Some scattered thundershowers are likely to fall in the afternoon but may bring no respite to the hot weather.

The sizzling condition is expected to last into the end of July.
